Yes, I'm guilty of this, you should know this.
Dear Yulegoat 2013

Dear Yuletide Writer:

Hello! You are my person! That's exciting--and scary, but in a good way! Anyway, thank you in advance, for what you're about to do for me--Yuletide is a crazy stressful experience that produces a lot of great things in a short time. But it's the good kind of stress, as you know, or will soon learn, if I'm taking your Yulevirginity. Don't worry, I'll be gentle. Maybe.

Anyway, I've now done this five times. Which I guess makes me middle aged in dog years. I've had good experiences and I'm sure I will this time too! Fun fact, I also run the Misses Clause Challenge with freneticfloetry, which promotes women in fic. I'm more the behind the scenes type to her public face of things but I do hang out in chat sometimes with the same username that I write with, which is hauntedd--it's a long story, I've had that name since I was 14(!) and as I'm now in my mid/late 20s...yeah.

So, what you need to know is that I love and adore strong independent complex women with issues as well, quiet strength, notsoquiet strength, as women who grow up and grow into who they are as people. Stories about women are my thing. As are character studies. Some of my favorite characters are: Tess Harding, Mellie Grant, Olivia Pope, Zoe Barnes, Juliette Barnes, Sansa Stark, Cersei Lannister, Arianne Martell, Nikita, V, Fiona Gallagher... I can go aaaaaall night.

In terms of genre: I prefer gen, but I can get behind het or femmeslash if it works for the characters and the story. I am a big fan of daaaaaaark fic, angst, ambiguity, and I love manipulation/killing people and things that makes you cry and/or think.

I am not a fan of fluff, schmoop, happily ever after-s for the sake of HEAs, or cracky fic with lots of in jokes. I really dislike non-canon AUs. I love the stuff that veers off of a moment in canon, but the influx of coffee shop/high school/bookstore AUs are soooooooooooooo not my thing.

I've also made a helpful list (I love lists, I'm one of those people) below:

Likes
* Strong Women
* Angst
* Power dynamics and their exploration
* Twisted, Dark Fic
* Dubcon
* Mental Manipulation
* Bad Boys w/ Hearts of Gold (Michael Guerin, Nolan Ross, Lip Gallagher)
* True Blue Gentlemen (Chuck Bartowski, Jon Snow, Kyle Valenti)
* Smart Dialogue
* Single-character POV that show a person's motivations and inner workings

Dislikes
* Adultery/Cheating -- I've had a rough go of it this year, please don't unless it's canonical (e.g. Fitz/Mellie).
* Crack/Meta - It's just not me, AT ALL.
* Crossovers
* Fluff/Schmoop
* Alpha/Beta/Omega fic or anything with "knotting". No me gusta.
* RPF
* Any sort of "play" involving bodily fluids (meaning scat, vomit, blood, enemas and everything/anything else. If it was on 2girls1cup or a similar video, I don't want a serving!). Also vore and the like is a nono.
* Gender-Swap/MPreg
* Babyfic
* Bestiality/Necrophelia
* Non-Canon based AUs
* Incest
* Animal Cruelty--I cry at the ASPCA commercials, don't do it.

Anyway, so my requests:

Orange is the New Black

Requested: Piper Chapman, Alex Vause, Larry Bloom. Explore their relationship with one another and how one another fit as a part of each other's lives. I'm not really looking for relationship fic here, but if you go that route, it's cool. I more just want to have the three of them try to come to terms with the fact that their lives are forever interconnected. Throw in anyone else you want, I love everyone in this show so I will be happy with whatever you want to do.

Orange is the New Black, man. Orange is the New Black. I have so many things I want that I legit almost wrote any, but I didn't because I am not nearly as brave as I think I am. What I love about Orange is the New Black is how REAL all these women are and how nuanced all the characters are and what motivates them. But what I love the most is the complicated relationship and ties that bind Piper, Larry and Alex together especially now that everything is so damn MESSY. But I mean I am totally open here. Totally. Which I know, I know, I know... shoulda requested any. And if you want to explore everyone's reaction to Larry's article and the continued impact that has and its ripples then go on with your bad self. I mean I know we saw some of that last season, but things like that don't just go away so....

Nashville

Requested: Juliette Barnes. Life after the death of her mother. Or Five times Juliette went looking for love in the wrong places and one time she got it right. Really, just give me canon-compliant Juliette.

Juliette is my GIRL. I love Juliette. I adore Juliette. I love that she's so messed up and tries to be tough while being this broken girl on this inside who has been destroyed by her mother's addictions and looking for the love she never got from her mother through her fans. I love that she ruins healthy relationships because it's all she knows how to do and that she's now bumbling into adulthood as best she can. I also love the complex relationship she has with Rayna and how it's evolving into a mentorship role.

House of Cards

Requested: Zoe Barnes. Her POV as her relationship with Francis changes and she discovers that the rabbit hole is far deeper than she'd imagined and as she evolves from a pawn into a player.

I. LOVE. THIS. SHOW. I worked in DC after college on the Hill and suffered DC burnout to the point that I avoided shows about politics for a looooong time, and yet this was the one that brought me back in. Zoe is my favorite part of this show because her evolution from a pawn to a player is ongoing and intriguing, especially since Francis seems to underestimate her just as she's growing into herself. I don't really ship the two of them, but if you do, that's fine, as long as it's angsty as fuck and not some fluff piece, because that's just not giving the Honorable Congressman Underwood the credit he deserves. ;)

Scandal

Requested: Mellie Grant. What does she actually think about everything? Honestly, just give me some canon-compliant Mellie with all of her shades of grey and I will be happy. If you have her win the long game over Fitz I will seriously make out with you.

Mellie is my queen. Yes, yes, Olivia is the HBIC and looks fabulous in her white coats while wearing her proverbial white hat, but Mellie is the one that I am most fascinated by as she's navigating this awkward position of First Lady who may be in love with her husband, who she never was supposed to love as this was all political--really, who is in love with another woman who she is forever tied to as they both made the decision to give it to Fitz the first go around.

I also don't buy that Fitz will forever have the upper hand in their battle--she's too smart for that, so if you have her win. I will love you.

Of note--I loathe Fitzgerald Grant. Loathe him. I also would not say no to some fucked up Olivia/Mellie as long as it's tangled up and messy as this ship, which I will go down with, is absolutely complicated and perfect.

Roswell

Requested: Michael & Tess. This is the pairing of my cold dark heart. My OTP to end all OTPs. I've written Roswell for YEARS and I keep coming back to this fandom, probably because there are lots of open ends to jump off from and the politics of Antar and the dynamics of the foursquare. Not to mention Tess is hands down my favorite character ever. So please do her justice, I really like to see the dimensions of her personality--you can totally make her evil/dark but if you do, I would like it to be more realized than the show where it was like all of a sudden they had budget cuts so Tess killed Alex even though she was embracing her human side up until then.

Okay I have a version of this request every year and this is legit the exact request from last year. Oh well. I love Michael and Tess as a couple--they just make sense to me in ways that none of the other pairings on Roswell ever did. Two outsiders, two smartasses, two hybrids who are actually invested in their alien sides. I've also written a lot of Michael/Tess so I can see them in a lot of situations, but I would like something plotty where their relationship develops. If it's from Tess' POV it's a bonus. I just really want Michael/Tess fic because it's my OTP and I'm basically the only one who writes it.

Here are a few ideas:

*Michael as Khivar-- Courtney said there were a lot of Rath worshippers but what maybe she wasn't saying was that Rath used a pseudonym -- Khivar to start a revolution. The deal still happens btwn Nasedo and Older!Khivar so I would like to see Michael coming to terms with who he actually is and turning to Tess who is coming to terms not only with this deal but also that she has a relationship with Michael and they both learn the truth about Antar in that Zan wasn't some great ruler, but actually a tyrant and maybe they shouldn't just believe everything they hear.

*Tess recruits Michael to help her fight Nasedo/Khivar after finding out about the deal after Nasedo's death. She's adamant that it's a secret and they get closer as a result.

*Zan is actually Michael's baby. Whether it was because Tess mindraped him into fucking her or because they actually were together is up to you, but if you go dark I would rather Tess be alive and they have to deal with the fall-out.

If you absolutely cannot do Michael/Tess, I'd be okay with gen that explores their dynamic, but please god no background Maria & Michael pairing. I find their relationship incredibly destructive despite actually loving both characters independent of one another like a lot of high school relationships. They're both worse together than they are apart so just don't.

Oh and I hate Max Evans. I've actually dismembered him in fic before. So there's that,too.

So there you have it. My requests. Again, thank you for doing this and ultimately if you're afraid of what I've requested, don't be--I will be happy with whatever you write as long as YOU love it and put your heart into it. So thank you in advance for whatever you're writing for me! I hope you have fun with it!

xoxo

PS. Like I said above, I go by the name hauntedd for all my fandom pursuits (including yuletide) and don't really keep all my shit on this journal. I have a horribly under updated fanfiction.net profile (and all of my yuletide fic is on ao3) and generally write angsty mostly female-driven stories in a bunch of fandoms including Roswell, Gossip Girl, Dollhouse, and once upon a time, Heroes.

PPS. While I do have a very minor interest in dental hygiene, I do not have a strap-on, for special occasions or everyday use. Sorry to dispel that rumor.

Just curious, as I was deciding whether to offer this fandom, how do you reconcile no incest with Michael/Tess? They are canonically brother and sister. :confused:

I do think it's an interesting pairing idea.

They actually are not canonically siblings in the show and therefore not incest-y. The closest it comes to suggesting that is a very early draft of one of the first season eps where Tess says they are (although it may have been a lie to get Michael to trust her as it was before the reveal she was one of them) and since it never made it to air, I don't consider it valid (same w a lot of other things that were left on the cutting room floor like Liz actually holding Max accountable for the way he treated her). Even in the message from Max's mother it's just "My son, you were the beloved leader of our people. I have sent with you your young bride. My daughter, the man you were betrothed to, and your brother's second-in-command." Since she didn't mention it, but did mention that Rath/Michael was Vilondra/Isabel's betrothed AND Zan/Max's second in command I think it means they didn't wind up intending for Tess and Michael to be related--it also wouldn't make political sense to marry both of them to the same family. (I've had this debate with a few of my polar friends before... can ya tell? haha)

if it's in one of the supplemental books that came out after the show I do not consider them canon and haven't read them. :)

Thanks for the details. I actually couldn't tell you'd debated it before, but I loved the show when I watched it, but it's been a while, so thanks for the clarification.

No prob :). I was big into that fandom back in the day so we had to do a lot of "defend your rare pair" against the larger ships so I can still remember some of the finer points years later. A font of useless knowledge I tell ya!
